Val d'Isère

Blending innovation and authenticity, Val d’Isère is among the resorts best known to skiers: guaranteed snow cover from end-November to May, state of the art ski area, fun activities for children, skiing for people of all abilities and for the whole family, sporting events, etc.

The authentic village of Val d’Isère, nestled at an altitude of 1,800m in the Haute-Tarentaise valley, became a ski resort in 1938. Since the 1992 Winter Olympics, Val d’Isère has maintained sporting facilities that are appreciated by top-level skiers. Now internationally recognised, Val d’Isère shares its ski area with Tignes, thus offering 300 km of pistes.

Thanks to its geographic situation, it boasts an excellent snow cover: 60% of the pistes are at altitudes of over 2,200 m and the frequent easterly winds bring abundant snowfalls. Moreover, Val d’Isère has Europe's most efficient snow-making facility called Atelier de la Neige, which guarantees snow-covered pistes from November to May thanks to artificial snow-making at the beginning of the season.

Val d’Isère Téléphériques, which operates Val d’Isère's ski lifts, has been Green Globe certified since the autumn of 2016. The company is committed to respecting the environment in which it operates, in particular by reducing the number of pylons in the ski area, and by investing in energy-efficient facilities.

The Tête de Solaise refurbishment project, initiated in 2016, is aimed at offering skiers of all levels a high-mountain skiing experience. This ambition is fuelled by the ultra-modern Solaise cablecar, the renovation of the Datcha chairlift, the creation of a high-altitude Lounge and the Val Kids facilities.

At the end of 2018, Val d’Isère opened the 10-person cable car at La Daille, a Symphony model which is a pioneer on the French market and runs over the Oreiller-Killy world-cup piste. Providing greater comfort, WiFi and heated seats, the latest-generation gondolas enable skiers to take advantage of cutting-edge technology.
