Featuring unspoilt forests, lakes and a listed village with historic monuments, these three resorts form the "Vallée du Giffre" side of the Grand Massif, The fifth largest ski area in France completely accessible on skis. Its five resorts, four of which have been managed by Compagnie des Alpes since 1998, feature 265km of slopes and a vast area of natural heritage.
With easy access from Geneva, and links to the other Grand Massif resorts (Flaine and Carroz), Samoëns, Morillon and Sixt-fer-à-Cheval benefited from significant investments in 2018, such as the development of the Combe de Coulouvrier and the opening of a six-seater detachable chairlift which provides access to no less than four new pistes in the Grand Massif, or the completion, in 2020, of the Vercland gondola lift in Samoëns.
A hilltop reservoir was also created in the Samoëns sector, holding 35,000 m3 of water, to secure snow cover.
The area’s development and modernisation go hand-in-hand with an abundant supply of accommodation options: these projects are facilitated by Compagnie des Alpes teams, as with the recent Club Med in Samoëns, that boosted the attractiveness of the area, as well as its accommodation capacity, which was already considerable.
The collective mobilisation of the local ecosystem is a core component of the Grand Massif. In 2015 the area launched Origine Grand Massif, a collective project and unique label that strives to support the local economy in all seasons by promoting expertise. Honey, meat, cheese, together with industrial, artisanal and music products: Origine Grand Massif promotes the many talents of its region and its one-of-a-kind identity.
In the first Green Globe-certified ski area in 2016 for all its activities, several programmes are managed to preserve and restore the landscapes and natural resources.
