In the heart of Grand Massif, the fifth largest ski area in France completely accessible on skis, Flaine was France's first Alpine ski resort to combine an exceptional mountain landscape, respect for the environment, architecture and urban development. With its exceptional snow cover, its direct access to the slopes and its numerous summer activities, it is a veritable paradise in all seasons. The challenge for Grand Massif lies in developing and modernising the customer experience while preserving and enhancing this unique natural and human heritage.

At Flaine, shops, services and buildings (two of which are listed historic monuments) are accessible on foot and stand in a unique "cirque" which forms a natural open-air museum. The outstanding panorama combines monumental sculptures such as Dubuffet's "Seven trees" (9.2 m high), Picasso's "Head of a woman" (12 m high) and Vasarely's "Three Hexagons" (5.3 m high) with a breathtaking view of the Mont-Blanc massif.

For these ski areas created at the end of the 1930s, the modernisation of all ski lifts and an improved network of ski runs, to facilitate flows and new discovery, are major challenges.
The area’s development and modernisation go hand-in-hand with an abundant supply of accommodation options: these projects are driven by the real estate agency, Flaine Immobilier, and even developed directly via a dedicated structure to create new accommodation units in the resort.

The numerous 4-season activities and real estate projects reinforce Flaine's position as a major tourist destination in Haute Savoie. The site has embraced an environmental commitment as one of its managerial priorities.
A pioneer since 1969 through Flaine (strict management of car accessibility, natural gas heating of buildings with no GHG emissions and burying of electrical cables), Grand Massif also became the first Green Globe-certified ski area in 2016 for all its activities.
An iconic project reflecting the ski area’s environmental commitment, Flaine established the first Environmental Observatory in Europe in 2008, covering an area of 1,400 hectares across five municipalities. It aims to provide an exhaustive inventory of the region’s biodiversity in all its forms to monitor its development in a matter-of-fact manner and to find solutions to sustain this wealth: a pioneering project that has since been emulated across all CDA ski areas.
