High Environmental Quality at Futuroscope's Station Cosmos hotel

The design and construction of this themed hotel have been awarded High Environmental Quality® certification. This certification covers several areas: eco-construction, eco-management, visitor comfort and health.

The outdoor areas of Station Cosmos were built using stone from local quarries, the sanitary facilities are supplied by the industrial water network, and the hotel management system (GTB) communicates with the hotel service to control room temperatures before occupancy.

HQE® High Environmental Quality
HQE stands for High Environmental Quality. It is an approach designed to minimize a building's impact on the environment. Developed since the 1990s, it is defined as a multi-criteria approach. It comprises 14 targets and an environmental management system. These 14 targets cover all phases of the project, from design to energy use during its lifespan, including user comfort and health.

Certification for the Station Cosmos hotel
The Station Cosmos program and design phase have been awarded a "High Environmental Quality" certificate. This certification is awarded for the building's sobriety and energy efficiency: its good insulation, high-performance equipment, reduced consumption of drinking water, minimized use of pollutants and installation of photovoltaic shading.

An energy self-sufficient building
The shades covering the hotel's parking spaces are covered with 1,750 m² of photovoltaic panels, producing an estimated 389 MWh/year, or 131% of the building's energy consumption, and reducing its CO2 emissions by 26.93 tonnes per year. The hotel is equipped with a heat recovery system for shower water (grey water) to reduce its energy consumption, generating 33 MWh of electricity per year. Heat recovery from the refrigeration plant in the cold rooms will save an estimated 12 MWh of electricity per year.

Water and waste management
Room taps are equipped with water flow limiters. The sanitary facilities are supplied with industrial water from the Parc du Futuroscope in order to save on drinking water, to the tune of an estimated 4,000 m³ per year. The hotel-restaurant teams are committed to sorting waste into 12 different streams. The waste is then sent for recycling.

Making customers and staff aware of eco-gestures
Ecology is everyone's business ! In-room home automation systems automatically switch off the air conditioning and heating when windows are open, as well as the lighting and TV when guests are absent. Suggesting to hotel guests that they should not systematically wash their towels, encouraging staff and guests to be careful with their water consumption, to use heating and air conditioning sparingly, and to sort waste are just some of the small eco-gestures indicated in the hotel's practical guide.
